Derby Women off the mark against Stoke Ladies

Derby were looking for their first win in the Women’s National League coming up against Stoke, who hadn’t lost their opening two games of the season, Derby struck first with a screamer from new signing Jade Formaston who shot from 25 yards into the top corner after two minutes. 

This woke Stoke up who had chances with Amy Hughes’ effort going over the bar. However, Derby found the net again after a corner gave the Ewes a 2-0 lead. Hannah Keryakoplis’ header her second this season.

Second half Stoke showed strong tackling and more possession but were undone by another set piece. Michalska’s header gave Derby a three-goal cushion.

Stoke pulled one back through Amy Hughes and continued to put pressure on with Steele’s speculative effort needing a strong hand from former Stoke goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke.

It finished 3-1 to Derby who record their first win of the new season.
