Champions Liverpool were stunned by Aston Villa losing 7-2 at Villa Park. Villa have been one of the inform teams in the Premiership, against a Liverpool side who’d been hit by injury as Adrian came in for Brazilian Alisson.
Adrian’s opportunity started off badly when four minutes in his misplaced pass went to Jack Grealish who played in new signing Ollie Watkins who scored his first Premier League goal.
It got even better for Watkins as he bombarded the left flank, before finding the net with his right foot. Salah made it 2-1 to give Liverpool hope with thirty minutes on the clock, but this hope was short lived as McGinn’s volley from 25 yards took a deflection to make it 3-1.
However, it got even better for Villa 3 minutes later when Ross Barkley’s free kick found Trezeguet who found Watkins with an empty net for his hat trick.
After the break, Liverpool found themselves going from bad to worse, debutant Ross Barkley scored on his debut after a deflection took the ball past the dejected Adrian, before Grealish added a sixth.
Salah scored a consolation goal to make it 6-2, but creator Grealish turned goal scorer again to make it seven.
This win puts Aston Villa 2nd in the table, as Liverpool prepare for their Merseyside Derby with top of the league Everton.
